Regals Compete Against Top Teams at Bulldog Classic

REDLANDS, Calif. — California Lutheran University women's golf took on some of the best competition in the nation as the Regals competed in the Bulldog Classic on Saturday and Sunday.

The University of Redlands hosted the event at The S at Rancho Mirage. The teams played 18 holes each day and the tournament featured seven teams and 40 individuals.

Haley Brown, Claire Cornejo, Grace Cornejo, Jett Legacion and Ashley Zook competed for the team total and Tara Ng played as an individual. The Purple and Gold finished sixth at 53-over-par. The Regals shot 322 strokes on day one and 307 on the second for a total of 629 strokes.

Legacion led the way and moved up 15 spots on the final day. She recorded an 84 in the first and fired a team-best 1-under-par 71 in the second to finish at 11-over-par with 155 strokes. Shed tied for 17th as she tied for the second-lowest round of the tournament.  

C. Cornejo and Zookwere next, just a few strokes back of Legacion, as they tied for 26th. The duo finished at 14-over-par as C. Cornejo stayed consistent with 79-79-158 and Zook tallied 84-74-158. 

Rounding out the scores for the Regals was Brown in 31st at 17-over-par (78-83-161), G. Cornejo as she tied for 33rd with 20-over-par (81-83-164) and Ng as she placed 36th at 28-over-par (86-86-172). 

The Regals have two more regular season tournaments which will determine their postseason. The second and third leg of the SCIAC Championships are next. Cal Lutheran is t SCIAC #2 April 9-10 at Mountain Meadows in Pomona, Calif.
