CLAREMONT, Calif. – Jozie Tangeman continued her hot shooting as she finished in double-digit scoring for the eighth straight contest, however, Cal Lutheran fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 73-45, Wednesday inside Roberts Pavilion.

The Regals (6-12, 3-7 SCIAC) struggled to find a rhythm on the offensive end of the floor, shooting just 25.9% from the field and just 17.4% from three-point range. The Athenas (12-6, 5-4 SCIAC) felt comfortable in their home gym, going 27-for-63 (42.9%) from the floor and shot an impressive 7-for-13 from beyond the arc. The hosts were dominant on the glass as they out-rebounded CLU 54-28.

Tangeman led the Purple and Gold with 14 points on the night and was the only Regal to finish in double figures. Haley Tyrell and Mackenzy Iwahashi each poured in eight points while Kamakani DeBlake came off the bench to chip in with four.

Despite Tangeman's deep three-pointer on Cal Lutheran's first possession, the Athenas grabbed the momentum from the start as they quickly build a double-digit lead in the first quarter. The Regals went just 3-of-14 from the field in the opening 10 minutes and surrendered seven offensive rebounds. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps led 23-9 heading into the second period.

CLU fought hard in the second quarter, but still could not manage to find their footing offensively. Defense and rebounding kept the visitors in the game, as they were only out-scored by three points in the quarter. Going into halftime, CMS led 40-23.

The Athenas would once again take control after halftime, adding another 10 points to their lead. The teams would trade baskets in the fourth quarter and eventually Claremont-Mudd-Scripps would cruise to a 73-45 win on their home floor.

Cal Lutheran will look forward to returning to Gilbert Arena when they host Redlands Feb. 1 at 4 p.m.
