LA VERNE, Calif. — Cal Lutheran Softball ended its season with a win as the Regals held off La Verne 6-5 on Sunday afternoon. The Leopards won the first game 14-7. 

Ariana Mendoza smashed two homeruns on the day, one in each game, and Natalie Winokur added a homerun of her own. 

In the second game, Mendoza got CLU on the board with her 2-run homerun in the first. In the bottom of the inning, pitcher Meghan Henry got out of a jam, as La Verne stranded the bases loaded. 

The Regals added more in the top of the third as Natalie Luna, Winokur, Membrere and Courtney Haapanen each tallied a RBI single, giving CLU a 6-1 lead.  

In the circle, Henry was on a roll. Through the first four innings, she gave up five hits and two earned runs. She shutout the Leopards in the fourth through sixth innings.

In all, Henry pitched 6.1 innings with nine hits and five earned runs. Sienna Perez came in for the save situation, with the bases loaded and one out in the seventh. After a bases clearing double, which out the score at 6-5, Perez recorded the second out of the inning. She got the final batter swinging as Cal Lutheran finished the regular season with a win. 

In game one, the Regals kept up with the Leopards through four innings. With CLU up 6-4 going to the bottom of the fourth, ULV exploded with four runs in the fourth and five in the fifth. The Leopards coasted the rest of the way and took the game. 

The hits came from all over both lineups as La Verne tallied 18 and the Regals added 13 more.  

Mendoza and Winokur both homered in the game. Mia Onesto went 4-for-4, Mendoza was 3-for-4 and Winokur, Ashley Membrere and Madison Gunn all collected two hits.

Mendoza led the team with three RBI, Winokur added two more and Onesto had one. Jackie Dian, Taryn Faull and Sammy Edmonds each pitched in the game. 

The Regals ended the regular season with La Verne. They run their sights to the SCIAC Postseason Tournament this next weekend.
