THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.— Junior Kendall Marinesi homered twice and classmate Danielle Chatman added one of her own, but the Regals lost to Manhattanville twice on Saturday afternoon.
The Manhattanville Valiants claimed the first game 7-3 and then won the second game 12-7. It was the first games of the season for the east coast team as the Valiants moved to 2-0. The Regals dropped to 3-7 on the young season.
During the two games, Marinesi led the offense with a two home runs, a triple and five RBIs. She now has five home runs on the year which ties for 10th most in a single season for program history. The top mark is 12. Chatman recorded her second home run of the season and added three RBIs.
In the first game, Manhattanville got on the board first and took a big lead after three innings and was up 6-0. The Valiants added one more run before Cal Lutheran cut into the deficit. The Regals scored three runs as Marinesi and Chatman hit solo shots and the freshman Rilee Grau added a RBI single. The Regals couldn't get any closer as the Valiants won the first game 7-3.
The Regals bounced back early in game two. CLU put up two runs in the first and three in the second to take a 5-2 lead. Marinesi hit a two-run triple in the first and junior Sienna Vannoy hit a RBI single while Chatman added a two-run RBI single.
Manhatanville tied the game up as they added runs in the third and fourth innings. After the Valiants took the lead in the top of the sixth, Marinesi answered the call with a two-run home run in bottom of the inning. The Valiants had the final say as they scored five runs in the top of the seventh and won the second game 12-7.
The Regals continue their 16-game home stand on Tuesday. Cal Lutheran welcomes Alfred for a doubleheader on Tuesday at 12 and 2 p.m. at Hutton Field.
