Kingsmen Sixth at Vanguard Invite

IRVINE, Calif.  — The Cal Lutheran men's cross country raced the Vanguard Invite at Irvine Regional Park on Friday morning for their second meet of the season.

The men ran eight kilometers and nine teams were in competition. The Kingsmen took sixth with 166 points. 

Sophomore Eric Talbert led the way for the Purple and Gold for the second consecutive race. He clocked his second-fastest 8k ever and crossed the finish line with 27 minutes and 54.66 seconds, good for 28th-place.

Hot on his tail was teammate Sebastian Sawyer. The junior made it two Kingsmen in the top 50 and placed 45th with a time of 28:33.33. 

The Kingsmen had five more runners in the race, three of which are freshmen, competing in their first-ever 8k. James Sutton, George Gaitanis and Ian Skrinde got their first taste of a collegiate 8k.

Rounding out the team was Sutton in 58th with 30:02.40, Gaitanis crossed the line in 62nd with 30:27.42, junior Max Segeberg came in 66th with 30:45.74, senior Xavier Reynoso was 85th with 34:07.94 and Skrinde was 94th with 40:12.64. 

The Kingsmen are back in action with the Pomona-Pitzer Invite. The race is set for Saturday, October 8 at 8:30 a.m.
