Several Personal Records Fall at Master’s Invitational

 

SANTA CLARITA, Calif.– The California Lutheran University men's cross-country team turned in many impressive times at the Master's Invitational, as Luke VanKeersbilck, Christian Zamudio and Jonathan Aguilar set new personal records in the 8K race.

"The Kingsmen had their best team performance of the season thus far." said Assistant Coach Brett Halvaks. "They worked in their groups and competed well as a team throughout the race. I'm excited to see what our next race holds after the great race we had today."

The Kingsmen finished 22ndoverall with a top-five time of 2:20:07.5 which was 2:50 ahead of their time at the course last season.

Nikita Khromets led CLU, finishing 83rdoverall with a time of 27:02.4. This was a season-best time for junior.

Not far behind Khromets was Rigoberto Baza, crossing the line at 27.28.3. The Chula Vista, Calif. native ran faster on the course than he did a year ago also showing improvement. Baza would finish 106thoverall.

Henry Friederichs posted a season-best time of 28.42.2 while finishing 174thoverall on the day.

VanKeersbilck managed to smash his personal record by 27 seconds, clocking in at 28:46.7. Zamudio also had a career day, posting a time of 28:48.9 which bested his previous personal best time by 1:16. Aguilar also impressed at the course, earning a time of 29:12.2 to beat his old personal record by 54 seconds.

Rudy Correra also turned in a personal best time of 29:56.3.

Cal Lutheran returns to action Oct. 19 at 8:45 a.m. when the Kingsmen compete in the Bronco Invitational at the Baylands Regional Park in Sunnyvale, Calif.
