Kingsmen Defeat Cuesta College Twice; Go 4-0 in Shortened Season

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — On the final day of their spring season, Cal Lutheran men's water polo defeated Cuesta College, twice, on Saturday afternoon. The Kingsmen claimed the first game 16-5 and won the second matchup 15-12. 

In the first game, Dillon Goldsmith and Wyatt Lowe led the way with five goals each, and Justin Krause added four more. 

The Kingsmen tallied 13 assists on 16 goals as Goldsmith and Krause both recorded three assists and Ben Brown, David Brandt and Taylor Garcia each added two. Cole Weiderman recorded the most drawn ejections with six and Lowed added four more. 

Defensively, Jonathan Salandi was in goal and made 10 saves with one steal. Goldsmith had the team lead in steals with three. 

The Kingsmen jumped all over Cuesta in game one and took a quick 6-2 lead at the end of the first. CLU shutout Cuesta in the second period and score four goals. The Purple and Gold matched their four goal output in the third quarter and went on to win 16-5. 

In game two, Weiderman was the leading goal scorer with six. Six more Kingsmen scored a goal as Brandt (two), Donny Nicol (two), Tommy Riffle (two), Trevor Campbell (one), Garcia (one) and Nathan March (one) found the back of the net. 

The defense kept Cuesta under wraps for most of the game. Campbell had three steals while Weiderman, Garcia, Brandt and March each had two. Andre Rivas got the win in the cage and made 12 saves with two steals and two assists. 

Cal Lutheran shut out Cuesta in the first quarter, going up 3-0 after eight minutes. Cuesta made a comeback over the second and third quarters and the score was tied 8-8 going to the fourth. 

The Kingsmen turned it back on and outscored Cuesta 7-4 in the fourth and won the game 15-12.

Cal Lutheran finished the shortened season with a 4-0 record. The Kingsmen defeated SCIAC opponent Redlands, twice.
