OXY Invitational: Curtin Places 3rd in Pole Vault, Carbullido Takes 8th in Triple Jump

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — California Lutheran University had four athletes competing at the Occidental Invitational on Saturday.

The Kingsmen's top finisher of the day was junior pole vaulter Cooper Curtin who placed 3rd. Curtin completed two high pressure vaults. Curtain was unsuccessful on his first two attempts before finding a way to clear the bar on his final chance at both his initial height of 4.27m and his third place winning height of 4.42m.

Senior Brendon Carbullido claimed an 8th place finish in the triple jump. Carbullido took four attemtps, but needed just one as his fist distance of 13.16m proved to be his best of the event.

In the 3000m steeplechase Sebastian Sawyer posted a time of 9:44.61. This was good enough for the sophomore to place 15th.

Senior Luke VanKeersbilck rounds out the events for the Kingsmen with a time of 2:02.17 in the 800m.

The Kingsmen will continue to try and reach top form at the Redlands Final Qualifier on Wednesday May 18th.
