LOS ANGELES — Cooper Curtin tied for second in the pole vault and Brendon Carbullido placed third in the triple jump to lead California Lutheran University men's track and field at the Oxy Distance Carnival & Spring Break Classic on Saturday.
It was a beautiful and sunny day as the Kingsmen competed at Occidental College. The team turned in five top-10 finishes and many top-20 marks.
Curtin continued his monstrous year as he tied for second in the pole vault with 4.45 meters. Last meet, he broke the program record.
Carbullido competed in jumping events. He placed third in the triple jump with 12.66 meters and tied for sixth in the long jump with 6.19.
Jake MacKinnon was the team's leader in throwing events. He took home seventh in shot put with 13.42 meters and 12th in discus and hammer with 37.90 and 33.53, respectively.
Connor Judd rounded out the top-10 finishers and was eight in the high jump with 1.75 meters. He also competed in the javelin and placed 19th with 30.89 meters.
On the track, the top marks for the Kingsmen were Noah Gaudi in the 100-meter dash (20th, 11.28 seconds), Luke VanKeersbilck in the 800-meter run (35th, 2:00.68), Eric Talbert in the 1500 meter run (73rd, 4:15.42) and Sebastian Sawyer in the 5000 meter run (15:31.56).
The Kingsmen also competed in the 4x100 meter relay. The team of Hasant Moses-Hillman, Carbullido, Bryan Bugni and Gaudi finished seventh with 45.37.
Cal Lutheran is back in action this next weekend on Friday at the Redlands Invitational.
