Kingsmen Get First Win of the Season; Defeat Christopher Newport

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — California Lutheran University men's tennis got its first win of the season as the Kingsmen defeated Christopher Newport 6-3 on Monday afternoon.

The Kingsmen took a 2-1 lead at the beginning of the dual, by winning the No. 2 and 3 doubles spots. 

Darvel Lossangoye and Ryan Murphy were victorious at the No. 2 as they won 8-3, tying up the dual at 1-1. The No. 3 team of Ben Vincze and Jacob Bear then put the Purple and Gold up as they claimed their match 8-6.

The Purple and Gold looked to carry that momentum into singles play. Bear pushed Cal Lutheran's lead to 3-1 as he won the No. 4 singles spot 6-1, 6-2. The Kingsmen then made it 4-1 as Parker McBride won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3. 

Christopher Newport would add their second point, at the No. 6 spot, but then the Kingsmen put the match away. 

Shawn Rothermel was victorious at the No. 5 spot and won 7-6(6), 6-2 as he clinched the dual for Cal Lutheran with their firth point. The Kingsmen added one more point as Lossangoye won his second straight match at No. 1. He bounced back to win in three sets, giving up the first 0-6, and then taking the next two 6-3, 6-2. 

The Kingsmen stay home and host William Jessup on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
