Kingsmen Defeat Firebirds

SAN MARCOS, Calif.— The Cal Lutheran Kingsmen played against the University of St. Katherine Firebirds, Saturday morning, and triumphed 9-0. 

Starting the day with doubles, Jake Haffner and Aaron Moylan, No. one, kicked off the morning with a win of 8-3. 

Florent Auteil and Ryen Wagner, No. two doubles, added another win for the Kingsmen, 8-1. Hitachi Hu and Matthew Quade, No. three doubles, won by walkover. 

Moving on to singles play, Hu, No. four singles, outplayed his opponent 6-0 and 6-1. Hu clinched the win for the Kingsmen and said of his dominant win, "I'm glad al of our hard work is paying off. We did a lot of fitness this week and I think that helped us to push through the crucial moments."

Moylan, No. three, added another win, 6-1 and 6-0. Quade, No. five singles, won 6-0 and 6-1. Haffner, No. one singles, won 6-4 and 6-4. Wagner, No. six singles, won by walkover.

Head coach Mike Gennette stated, "We are building up to a higher threshold with our fitness and it's starting to show in matches. We are going twice as hard next week!" 

Auteil, No. two singles, won his first set 6-4, but fell the second 7-6, pushing his match into a tiebreaker. The final score of the tiebreaker was 10-6, with Auteil taking the win for the Kingsmen.

The Cal Lutheran Kingsmen travel to meet the Chapman Panthers, April19, at 3 PM PST, for another SCIAC matchup.
