The Kingsmen swimming and diving team had six different athletes break 12 CLU top-10 records at the Caltech Invitational. The Caltech Invite lasted two days, Saturday and Sunday, and consisted of Cal Lutheran, Caltech and Occidental.
Luke Rodarte broke the CLU team record, the SCIAC record, and now holds the No. 1 spot in the nation for the 200-yard breaststroke (1:57.61). This time gives him an automatic qualification to the NCAA Championships.
Rodarte secured first in the 100 breast (53.83), Miles Gaitan placed second in the 200 back (1:54.06), Kyle Denson holds third in the 200 back (1:55.92), Lincoln Hall placed sixth in the 100 breast (58.22), Denson placed seventh in the 100 back (54.24), Rodarte placed seventh in the 100 free (46.42), Hall placed seventh in the 200 breast (2:10.39), Marcel Hurtubise placed eighth in the 100 fly (52.11), Rodarte placed eighth in the 50 free (21.30), Caelan Jack placed 10th in the 200 IM (1:58.96), and Hurtubise placed 10th in the 200 fly (2:02.04).
The Kingsmen also clinched various first and second place finishes in other events throughout the meet.
Andreas Nybo placed first in the 200 IM (1:51.81), Gaitan placed first in the 100 back (52.46), and Rodarte placed first in the 100 and 200 breast.
Two Kingsmen relay teams finished first at the invitational. The 400-yard medley relay of Gaitan, Rodarte, Nybo, and Nick Kenny (3:20.55) and the 200-yard medley made up of the same four swimmers (1:31.10).
The Kingsmen also secured two second-place finishes in other relay events. The 200-yard free relay of Kenny, Keegan March, Joshua Nekoba, and Rodarte (1:25.83) and the 400-yard free relay of Rodarte, Nybo, March, and Kenny (3:04.92).
The Kingsmen are off for a while before returning to the pool. Their next time in action is Saturday, January 8, when they host Pomona-Pitzer at 10:30 a.m.
