Kingsmen Soccer Season Comes to a Close in SCIAC Semis

ORANGE, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's soccer saw its 2022 season come to an end in the semifinals of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament as the Kingsmen fell to the Chapman Panthers 1-0 on Friday night.

The Kingsmen made program history this season as they hosted their first SCIAC Tournament game and made the tourney in back-to-back years. Both were a program first. 

Cal Lutheran found themselves in an early hole as Chapman took a quick lead in the seventh minute. The Kingsmen took 10 shots during the game, with four being on goal, as they tried to even the score. 

Igor Lumbrano tallied a team-high four shots, Chris Pelaez and Giovanni Torres had two each and Preston Fleming and Juan Valencia added one.

Cal Lutheran put four of those shots on goal and Chapman had five. Pelaez led the team with two and Torres and Lumbrano had one. 

Davis Sharts was in goal for the Kingsmen and recorded four saves. 

The Kingsmen put the Panthers to the test, but Chapman was able to hang onto the 1-0 lead and eliminated the Kingsmen from the SCIAC Tournament. Cal Lutheran finished the season with a record of 5-5-8.
