THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Chris Pelaez and Cesar Sagastume kept Cal Lutheran men's soccer rolling as the Kingsmen defeated the Whittier Poets 2-0 on Wednesday night.

The Kingsmen are now 2-0 in conference and 3-1-2 overall. They have scored multiple goals in three straight games.

Peleaz scored his second goal of the season as Sagastume recorded his first. JP Melgoza had his first assist of the season as he connected with Pelaez for the goal.

The Kingsmen had Davis Sharts in goal and he tallied three saves. Sharts and the defense of Daniel Fujiwara, Aidan Johnston, Erick Mejia, and Tyler Sherard combined for their second shutout this year.

The Kingsmen got on the board early in the 13th minute. A cross from Melgoza was scored by a sliding Pelaez as Cal Lutheran took the early lead.

The Violet and Gold doubled up their lead late in the half. In the 43rd minute, with the ball bouncing around in the box, Sagastume stuck with the play. He corralled the ball, dribbled around a Whittier, defender and put it into the bottom right corner.

In the second half, the Kingsmen controlled possession. Both teams had chances, but goalkeepers were there for the save. The Purple and Gold defense stood strong the rest of the way and Cal Lutheran picked up the win.

The Kingsmen are staying home for their next competition. Cal Lutheran welcomes Redlands to William Rolland Stadium on Saturday for a doubleheader. The Regals play first with the Kingsmen starting at 7:30 p.m.
