Kingsmen Win on Labor Day, Take Down Macalester 1-0

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's soccer wrapped up the UC Santa Cruz Labor Day Tournament with a 1-0 win against Macalester on Monday morning. 

The Kingsmen got on the board off a free kick. JP Melgoza had perfect placement as he sent a ball to the top right corner in the 32nd minute. 

Cal Lutheran recorded eight shots in the first half as the Kingsmen kept the Macalester defense and goalkeeper busy. 

The game continued to be a defensive showing in the second half. Davis Sharts was in goal for the Kingsmen and recorded a clean sheet. He made four saves as he combined with the defense to shut down the Scots. Erick Mejia, Aidan Johnston and Tyler Sherard anchored the defense.

The Kingsmen took 14 shots in all, with six being on goal. Recording the shots on the goal for the Kingsmen was Christian Gonzalez, Max Scott, Chris Pelaez, Gio Torres, and Melgoza (twice).

The Kingsmen continue the season on the road. Cal Lutheran will take on Pacific Lutheran on Friday at 5 p.m. in a neutral site match hosted by Willamette University.
