WHITTIER, Calif. – The California Lutheran University men's soccer team fought hard to come back from 1-0 down, but it was Whittier who grabbed the game-winning goal in the second overtime period to clinch a 2-1 victory over the Kingsmen, Wednesday night at Donald E. Graham Soccer Field.

The Poets held the advantage in shots (20-12) and corner kicks (9-3) and enjoyed majority of the possession.

At the stroke of halftime, the hosts managed to break through after numerous scoring opportunities. RayRay Roberson cut into the box and hit his shot across goal. The ball just tucked inside the left post to find the back of the net and Whittier was out in front. After a hotly contested 45 minutes, it was a tough pill to swallow for the visitors just before the halftime whistle.

Cal Lutheran's spirit was not broken, however, as Aaron Winsick netted the equalizing goal in the 69th minute. The forward's third goal of the year was blasted into the back of the net from 25 yards out and gave his team some life.

It was a cagey affair for the remainder of the first 90 minutes and the game would eventually head to overtime.

The Poets eventually bagged the winner just before the end of the first overtime period when a shot by Parker McDonald rebounded off the crossbar and fell to the foot of Nainoa Loschky who impressively volleyed his effort into the back of the net. The golden goal would give the hosts the 2-1 victory and they would walk away with all three points.

Tallying shots on goal for the Kingsmen were Igor Lumbrano, Lucca Rodrigues, Ryan Fraye, Nick Bryant and Winisck.

Cal Lutheran gets back to action Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. when the Kingsmen head back on the road to take on Occidental.
