Kingsmen Finish Sixth at SCIAC Championships; Stewart 11th, Singh 16th

BEAUMONT, Calif. — California Lutheran University men's golf .placed sixth as the Kingsmen competed in the 2022 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships which were held Sunday through Tuesday at the Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon. 

The team consisted of Tanner Stewart as he finished 11th, Jot Singh and he was 16th, JP Guimaraes Jr. tied for 26th, Derek Hahn and Jimmy Solano tied for 29th and Zach Rodriguez tied for 33rd

The championships consists of three legs, with two rounds being played at SCIAC #1, two at SCIAC #2 and three rounds at the championships. The team title is determined from all seven rounds and individual awards were determined at just the championships. The men played all three rounds at the Champions Course which had a Par of 72. 

The Kingsmen had a 598 at SCIAC #1 and 693 at SCIAC #2. They carded a 319 in the first round at the SCIAC Championships, improved with a 310 in the second and continued lowering their score with a 303  in the third. The Purple and Gold finished with 932 strokes and 68-over-par for the championships. Overall, they placed sixth with 2,123 strokes. 

Playing in his first SCIAC Championship, Stewart led the way at 13-over-par. He improved each day with a 79 over the first 18, 77 in the second and a 1-over-par 73 in the third. He tied for the third-most Pars at the tournament with 32 and added seven birdies. 

Singh, also playing in her first championship, placed 16th with 17-over-par. He took Stewart's lead and got better each day. He carded an 80 in the first round, a 78 in the second and then a 75 in the third.  He tallied 27 Pars and tied with Stewart for the team-high seven birdies. 

Guimaraes Jr. was 23-over-par (83-78-78-239), Hahn (80-82-78-240) and Solano (80-83-77-240) were next with 24-over-par and Rodriguez was 26-over-par (83-77-82-242). Guimaraes Jr. led the team and tied for the most Eagles at the tournament with two. Hahn and Solano tied for the 12-most Pars at the tournament with 29. 

The Kingsmen wait for a committee's decision at the selection show on May 2 to see if they get to compete at the 2022 NCAA Men's Golf Championship. The tournament is May 10-13 at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas.
