LLANO, Calif. — California Lutheran University men's golf was the runner-up and all five Kingsmen finished in the top-25 for an incredible outing at the TMU Spring Invite at Crystalaire Country Club.
The tournament featured eight teams and 43 individuals. The course had a Par of 72 as teams played 18 holes on both Monday and Tuesday.
The Purple and Gold carded a 296 on day one and followed it up with a 293 on day two. They finished at 13-over-par with 589 strokes, good for the second-place finish.
The Kingsmen had the best stats on Par 4 holes and had an average score of 4.10. Cal Lutheran had the most pars with 104, the second-most birdies with 30 and were one of two teams with an eagle.
Derek Hahn was the top finisher for the Kingsmen and came in fourth. He fired a 3-under-par 69 to start his tournament. His second day did not go as smooth as he shot a 74 and totaled 143 strokes. Hahn had the second-best scoring average on Par 5s as he averaged 4.50 strokes. The tied for team-lead 23 pars and had the eagle.
Jot Singh was next as he tied for sixth. He shot a 75 on day one and had work to do on the second day. He turned it around and fired a 71 over the second 18, moving up 12 spots, and had 146 strokes. Singh had the third-lowest scoring average on Par 3s at the tournament with 3.00. He tallied 23 pars and seven birdies.
Garet Needham just narrowly missed the top-10 as he placed 11th. He stayed consistent over the two rounds shooting a 75 and 74. He finished at 5-over-par with 149 strokes. Need hamd tied with Singh for the third-most birdies at the tournament with seven. He tied for the fourth-lowest scoring average on Par 5s with 4.63.
JP Guimaraes Jr. made it four Kingsmen in the top-20 and tiued for 16th. He shot a 77 on the first day and followed it up with a 74 on day two. He finished at 7-over-par with 151 strokes. He was third on the team with 22 pars.
Jimmy Solano rounded out the starting lineup for the Kingsmen. He tied for 25th at 11-over-par. He shot an 80 on day one and improved with a 75 on day two for 155 strokes. Solano recorded six birdies throughout the tournament.
The Kingsmen get back into conference play with their next tournament. The SCIAC #2 is Sat and Sunday at Mountain Meadows Golf Club.
