Five Kingsmen Score Double Figures, Handle Beavers 76-49

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Five Kingsmen scored in double figures as Cal Lutheran men's basketball defeated Caltech 76-49 on Saturday night.

The Kingsmen improved to 4-1 in conference play and are 7-6 overall. Cal Lutheran forced Caltech into 27 turnovers, and committed only 11 of their own. The Kingsmen scored 29 points off turnovers, had 28 points in the paint and 19 bench points.

Brock Susko led the way with 16 points, Jake Martin was next with 15, Devon Lewis added 11 and Desi Burrage and Stephen Davis had 10 each. Lewis dished out a team-high seven assists, Burrage recorded a team-high six steals and Susko had the most rebounds with five.

The Kingsmen opened the first half with a 3-point shot by Susko. Caltech quickly retaliated before Cal Lutheran took a 12-2 lead. The Beavers and Kingsmen then traded shots, as Cal Lutheran remained in the lead, 22-12. Cal Lutheran kept their lead throughout the rest of the half and were up 40-26 at the break.

Caltech returned reinvigorated as the Beavers opened the second half with a score. The Kingsmen and Beavers then traded shots once more as Cal Lutheran continued to hold the lead at 49-32. The Kingsmen kept the points coming and broke through Caltech's defense and went up 20, 52-32.

Cal Lutheran and Caltech found themselves in a standstill for over a minute, before trading shots again. Cal Lutheran then picked up the pace and continued making shots, found their stride, and increased their lead to 74-49. With one final layup by Jordan Cooper, Cal Lutheran won the game, their second in a row.

The Kingsmen's next game will be against the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 7 p.m.
