SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's basketball took on a tough NAIA opponent and traveled to The Master's University on Saturday night. The Mustangs defeated the Kingsmen 64-49.
Logan McCullough and Desi Burrage both scored double-digits to lead the Kingsmen. McCullough added four rebounds, three assists and two steals as he flashed an all-around game.
Riley O'Connor came off the bench to add eight points and Brock Susko had six. Susko had a team-high five rebounds and matched McCullough with three assists.
It was a rough shooting night for the Kingsmen as they went 28.6-percent from both the field and from three. Master's was 50-percent from the field and 40 from three-point range.
The Kingsmen defense forced the Mustangs into 20 turnovers, compared to their 12, but it was Master's that took advantage. The Mustangs scored 22 points off turnovers and the Kingsmen had 14. The game was also defined in the paint. The Mustangs had 28 while holding the Kingsmen to 16.
Cal Lutheran jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, but did not hold the lead for long as Master's scored 14 straight points. The Mustangs held their lead for the rest of the half and took a 35-23 advantage into the break.
Master's kept coming at the Kingsmen and eventually had their largest lead of 21 points with 7:32 left in the game. Cal Lutheran could not recover as they lost their first road game of the year.
The Kingsmen look to get in the win column and stay on the road. Cal Lutheran is at Puget Sound on Friday at 5 p.m.
