Redlands Basketball Gets Revenge at Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran men's basketball team saw a 23-point deficit in the first half, that it could not overcome, and the Redlands Bulldogs walked off the court with a 100-61 win on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs got revenge as the Kingsmen won the first contest between the teams, a 68-65 win at Redlands. The loss dropped Cal Lutheran to 3-16 overall and 1-9 in SCIAC play while Redlands picked up a big conference win and are 12-6 and 5-4.  

In the first half, the Redlands defense came out and pressured the Kingsmen into 14 turnovers, which the Bulldogs scored 22 points off of. On the other side, Redlands only committed six, as their offense shot 48.5-percent. The Kingsmen shot to 32-percent and were 2-of-10 from three-point range.

The first 10 minutes of the game was all Bulldogs as they scored the first eight points on their wat to taking a quick 27-8 lead. The bulldogs continued to pile up the points and built their biggest lead of the first half 33-10, with 7:16 remaining. 

The Kingsmen worked to cut into the lead, but the Redlands had an answer each time and the lead was kept right around 20 points for most of the first half. Cal Lutheran had the last basket of the first as Redlands took a 48-27 lead to the break. 

The second half continued just like the first as Redlands had all the answers. The points kept coming and the Bulldogs won 100-61. It was a tough shooting day for the Kingsmen from three-point range as they were just 5-of-27. 

Cole Thomas and Calvin Phillips came off the bench to lead the team with 10 points each. Thomas added a team-high six boards, two steals and one assist. 

Palmer Chaplin was next with nine points, Logan McCullough tallied eight and Brooks Mallory had seven. Miles Houston matched Thomas with a team-high six rebounds and Connor Cole dished out three assists. 

Cal Lutheran hits the road for the next two contests and is at Chapman on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
