Kingsmen Begin CLU Holiday Classic

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran hosted the CLU Holiday Classic held at Gilbert Arena and fell in the opening matchup 73-53 to Rosemont College.

The Kingsmen struggled from beyond the arc as they shot just 21.7% while their counterparts used the three-ball to their advantage, going 7-18.

Cole Thomas had a very productive day on the offensive end of the floor with an efficient line of 17 points (6-12 FG) with five rebounds and three assists. Miles Houston was solid in the post, going 5-8 from the floor to chip in with 10 points.

Rosemont opened the contest on an 16-5 run to quick gain the upper hand. CLU would roar back into the game and cut the lead to just three after a three-pointer from Lachlan Hannemann and a completed 'and-one' from Charlie Lee helped close the gap.

However, the Ravens mustered another impressive run to push their lead to as many as 14 points. After an up-and-down first half, the visitors would lead 35-22 after a layup at the buzzer gave their team some momentum going into the final 20 minutes.

A triple from Palmer Chaplin and another layup from Houston gave the Kingsmen some life, but Rosemont showed their impressive consistency to once again push their lead back to 20 points.

The teams would mainly trade baskets the rest of the way and the Ravens would walk away with a 73-53 victory.

Tomas Calvo made his debut in the Purple and Gold after being promoted from the junior varsity squad.

The Kingsmen fall to 1-8 (0-1 SCIAC) and will face Messiah on Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. to close the CLU Holiday Classic at Gilbert Arena.
