THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Smudge Pot Trophy was on the line, and a slow start hindered Cal Lutheran football, as the Kingsmen fell 35-14 on Saturday night.

The Kingsmen drop to 1-1 in conference and 3-3 while Redlands is 1-0 in conference and 1-4 overall. The Bulldogs won the Smudge Pot Trophy for the ninth consecutive time. Cal Lutheran won the first-ever meeting with the trophy in 2012 and the Bulldogs have won every game since.

Cal Lutheran got off to a slow start and was down 14-0 at the half. Redlands continued to grow their lead and went up 21-0 in third before Cal Lutheran answered with their first score. Jadon Cline caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Nick Lasher

In the fourth quarter, Redlands pushed their lead back to three touchdowns and Cal Lutheran answered on their ensuing possession. The second score from Cal Lutheran came on a three-yard pass from Lasher to Jajuan Thomas. The Bulldogs scored once more and that was it as Redlands took down Cal Lutheran.

Lasher was 23-31 with 211 yards and two passing touchdowns. Dallas Martin caught four of those passes for 51 yards. Thomas caught five balls for 48 yards. Isaiah Martin handled the rushing duties and had 35 yards on 11 carries.

Jalani Blade led the charge on defense and had nine tackles. Matt Flynn was next with eight and Randal Voutt and Devon Goosby both had seven.

Justice Forbes had 1.5 tackles-for-loss pushing the Bulldogs back 17 yards. Jackson White had one tackle-for-loss and Shaihi Baker had half a tackle-for-loss.

The Kingsmen look to bounce back next weekend. Cal Lutheran is at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps next Saturday at 1 p.m.
