Dees Named Second Team All-America by AFCA

WACO, Texas— Obasi Dees continues his historic football career at Cal Lutheran as the senior cornerback represents the Kingsmen on the 2019 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III Coaches' All-America Second Team, which the association announced this morning.

Dees (Antioch, Calif.) is just the fifth Kingsmen to garner AFCA All-America honors and the first to do so since 2008. He joins the likes of Jacob Calderon, Ryan Geisler, Connor Pearce and Jeff Shea (twice).

Dees has impressed since the first time he stepped on the gridiron for the Kingsmen and has built quite a legacy at Cal Lutheran. With more awards to be earned this year, Dees has already received First Team All-SCIAC, making him the first Kingsmen with the four-time First Team distinction in program history.

Dees has been a staple at the cornerback position, forcing opposing offenses to go the other way. When he was challenged, he led the defense with four interceptions which tied for the sixth-most in conference. The captain is 55th in the nation for interceptions per game (0.4) and added 30 total tackles.

The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best — the coaches themselves.
