Kingsmen Drop Series Opener to Sagehens

CLAREMONT, Calif. — California Lutheran University baseball fell in the series opener with Pomona-Pitzer 8-1 on Friday afternoon. 

The Kingsmen mustered only five hits as they dropped to 5-2 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play and 16-7 overall. The Sagehens totaled 16 hits, improving to 8-2 and 20-3. 

Alexander Rivas was on the mound and ousted after 3.0 innings. He gave up nine hits and six earned while only striking out one. He took the loss and dropped to 3-3 on the season. 

The Pomona-Pitzer bats got to the Kingsmen, putting up runs in five of the first six innings. The Sagehens scored two in the first, one in the second and three in the fourth to open a 6-0 lead. 

Cal Lutheran got one run back in the top of the fifth. Nick Fusari singled in Sean Blandino as the Kingsmen looked to get back in the game. The Sagehens put the finishing touches with one run the fifth and sixth and kept the Kingsmen scoreless the rest of the game. 

The teams are back at it on Saturday with a doubleheader. Cal Lutheran is the host with first pitch of the first game set for 11 a.m.
