Kingsmen Humbled by No. 7 Panthers

DEMOREST, Ga. — California Lutheran University baseball was humbled by No.7 Birmingham Southern and took their first loss of the season 14-2 on Friday afternoon. 

Birmingham Southern is ranked No. 7 in both the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason Poll and the NCBWA/D3baseball.com top 25 poll. 

After a 5-0 start, the Kingsmen were brought back down to the earth as the pitching staff gave up 22 hits and 14 earned runs. 

Sean Blandino and Will Watson both recorded an RBI to supply the runs for the Purple and Gold. Blandino, Austin Carrillo and Ethan Doshi all recorded a double as the offense had nine hits, but could only muster two runs. 

The Panthers scored runs in the first four innings with one in the first, five in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth. With the 11-0 lead, Birmingham Southern was able to coast the rest of the day. 

The Kingsmen have one more game in their Georgia road trip. Cal Lutheran will try to get back in the win column on Saturday with a game at 7 a.m. PST.
