THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.– Ryan Probst delivered the walk off hit through the right side, Austin Carrillo raced home, and Cal Lutheran baseball defeated the CMS Stags 12-11 in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon.
The Kingsmen improve to 13-1 on the year and 8-1 in conference play. They have swept two conference opponents, in Caltech and CMS.
The game was resumed after being suspended due to darkness on Feb. 22. The game picked up in the 9th inning where Christian Slattery got the call and took to the mound.
The nation's leader in saves, Slattery, picked up his first win of the season as he went 2.0 innings, giving up just 1 ER, and striking out two.
After two quick outs to start the top of the ninth, the Stags got on base after a batter was hit by a pitch. They broke the tie as the next batter doubled to left center.
The Kingsmen answered the call in the bottom of the ninth. Ryne Yamashiro drew a walk to start the inning and Daniel Parr pushed him to third after a single. Yamashiro scored the equalizer as Zach Bullard delivered the clutch hit.
In the top of the 10th, Slattery made quick work as the Stags' hitters went three up, three down.
The bottom of the inning had two outs as Carrillo stepped to the plate. After drawing a walk, Carrillo stole second and then continued to third after an error by the catcher. Probst put the finishing touches on the game with his single.
The Kingsmen have non-conference games before getting back into SCIAC play. They host Redlands, in a non-conference game, on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
