Slattery Named SCIAC Pitcher of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — After notching a save and a win in Cal Lutheran's three-game sweep over Redlands, junior Christian Slattery was named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the week for the first time in his career.

Slattery is currently sixth in the nation with eight saves and tied for first in the conference. Two of those saves came against No. 5 Chapman on March 16 and No. 8 Texas Lutheran on March 1. He additionally leads the Kingsmen pitching staff with a 1.74 ERA.

This weekend, the right-hander picked up his eighth save in a 6-5 victory over the Bulldogs, coming in the ninth to slam the door on a one-run ballgame. He did just that against the top of the lineup, striking out two swinging and inducing a pop up to first.

Later in eighth inning of game three of the series, Slattery induced three straight flyouts to strand the go-ahead run for the Bulldogs on third. He returned for the ninth, now with the lead, and facing the top of the lineup once again, he fooled two more batters swinging to clinch the series sweep with a 7-5 win.

The weekend results move Cal Lutheran to 23-11 on the year and 12-6 in the SCIAC standings, tied with La Verne for second and just one game behind Chapman in first.
