REDLANDS, Calif. – The California Lutheran baseball team fell to Redlands 11-2 in the first game of a three-game series Friday afternoon at The Yard.

The Kingsmen (8-7, 3-4 SCIAC) managed just seven hits and struck nine times. Felix Minjarez got the win for the Bulldogs (8-3, 5-2) after he pitched 7.2 innings. He struck out seven batters.

Nate Wehner started on the mound for CLU. He gave up three earned runs on nine hits. The Bulldogs also scored four unearned runs, due to errors by the Kingsmen in the field. Nick Maldonado and Kevin Baranowski came in for relief. Maldonado shined as pitched two innings and gave up one hit and struck out one batter. The CLU defense had five errors during the game.

Alec Iniguez and Ryne Yamashiro had the only offense for the Violet and Gold. They both had one RBI. Weston Clark led the Kingsmen with two hits.

Redlands got on the board and scored a run in the first inning. The Bulldogs broke the game open in the third and scored five more runs. They added a few more over the next few innings and had 9-0 lead heading to the eighth.

CLU finally got some offense in the top of the eighth. Iniguez hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Clark scored the first run of the game. A few batters later, Yamashiro singled up the middle, scoring Kaden White.  

Redlands scored two more runs in the bottom of the eighth and won with a final score of 11-2.

Cal Lutheran looks to bounce back and claim the series Saturday. The Kingsmen and Bulldogs play a doubleheader at Ullman Stadium with the first game set for 11:00 a.m. and the second at 2:30 p.m.
