Barry Schreifels was named the head coach of the Cal Lutheran men's and women's swimming and diving programs in 2018.

In the 2021-22 season, Schreifels coached the program's first national champion as Luke Rodarte won the 100-yard breast. The duo of Rodarte and Nybo placed the Kingsmen 20th in the nation. 

In his second year with the program's (2019-20), Schreifels led the Kingsmen to a third-place finish at the SCIAC Championships. Three Kingsmen also earned multiple All-America honors. 

Schreifels comes to Cal Lutheran with 24 years of coaching experience at the Division I level. He was the assistant coach at Ohio University from 1986-89 and then went on to be an assistant at Arizona State from 1989-93. Schreifels then accepted the head coaching job at California State University Northridge (CSUN) and was there from 1993-2010. 

While at CSUN, the women’s team earned Academic All-American by College Swim Coaches Association 12 times. His swimmers were conference champions 18 times, broke team records 43 times and qualified for the NCAA Division I Swimming Championships three times. He was also named the 1995 Pacific Swim Conference Coach of the Year at CSUN. On top of coaching at CSUN, Schreifels was the Director of Aquatics. 

Over his career at the three colleges, Schreifels coached the individual U.S. National Champion in the 200-meter freestyle in 1990, was named Pacific Swim Conference Coach of the Year in 1995 and while at CSUN, he served as the Director of Aquatics. 

Schreifels graduated from Western Washington University with a bachelor's in secondary history education in 1984. He went onto Ohio University and earned a master’s in science, athletic administration.

Schreifels is a member of the College Swim Coaches Association, the American Swim Coaches Association and is a certified coach member of United States Swimming.
