Flagpole Dedicated for Justin Meek at Samuelson Aquatics Center

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.— It was an emotional and memorable Saturday as members of the Cal Lutheran community gathered at the Samuelson Aquatics Center for a flagpole dedication in honor of Justin Meek.

The ceremony had remarks from Cal Lutheran President Chris Kimball, Water Polo Head Coach Craig Rond and more. On the pole was a plaque with three heartfelt, meaningful words – Kingsman, Hero, Friend.

"Justin died in battle and is a true American hero," said head water polo coach Craig Rond. "The flagpole will always represent his spirit of courage and caring. We are so grateful for the Blaauw family, which dedicated the flagpole, and the Meek family."

Meek passed away in 2018 at the Borderline shooting. He is an American hero after saving the lives of many others, while taking a bullet protecting them. He was born in 1995, went to Cal Lutheran and competed for the men's water polo team while also being involved in many events and groups. His sister, Victoria Rose, currently plays for the women's team.

Meek will always be looking down on us and now has a 35-foot flagpole at the place he loved. His presence, leadership and much, mch more will be known whenever the flag is raised. He may be gone, but Meek will never be forgotten.
