De Leon, Howard Earn SCIAC Athlete of the Week Honors

ALISO VIEJO, Calif.– This afternoon the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced their Athlete of the Week honorees and Cal Lutheran's Cesar De Leon and Carly Rose Howard were selected. 

De Leon was named the Football Offensive Player of the Week and Howard earned the Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week

De Leon (Bakersfield, Calif.) led Kingsmen football to a 45-28 win against Pacific (Ore.) on Saturday as CLU won its home opener.  The senior quarterback put on a clinic as he tied the program record for most passing touchdowns in a game with six. The Kingsmen scored on their first six possessions as de Leon threw for five touchdowns in the first half. For the game, he was 22-of-34 for 343 yards. He had a long pass of 66 yards and also threw for a 48-yard completion. 

Howard (Portland, Ore.) claimed her second defensive award this season as she led the Regals to a 3-2 win against Pomona-Pitzer and a sweep of Occidental. Versus Pomona-Pitzer, the senior libero was fantastic as she tallied a career-high 36 digs in the come-from-behind win. She added four assists, two aces and two kills. In the sweep of Oxy, Howard recorded eight digs, four assists and one ace.

Regals volleyball continues the season on Tuesday at Redlands while Kingsmen football remains home and will face UW-Stout on Saturday at 1 p.m.
