Meyer Moves to Second on All-Time Saves List; Records 16 Saves Against Sagehens

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Goalkeeper Bailey Meyer tallied 16 saves against Pomona-Pitzer, giving her 766 for her career, as she moved up to second on Cal Lutheran's all-time saves list. The defense was not enough though as the Regals fell to the Sagehens 12-7 on Wednesday night.

766 saves moved Meyer past Katie Windsor's 756. Windsor played for the Regals in 2005-08. The leader in saves at CLU is Gina Merry. She played from 2013-16 and has 893.

It was No. 1 in the nation, Pomona-Pitzer, against No. 2, Cal Lutheran, as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes also squared off for the top spot in league play. With the loss, the Regals dropped to 10-7 and 4-1 in conference play. Pomona-Pitzer improved to 9-8 and 5-0.

The defense kept the Regals in the game and the offense had its chances, but could not convert. As a team, Cal Lutheran combined for 18 drawn ejections, with Victoria Rose Meek and Lexi Rond leading the way with three apiece. CLU had a tough time finding the back of the net, while having the advantage, and only made four goals on the 18 opportunities.

Meek and Rond also led the offense with two goals each and Kaitlin Gardhouse, Nikki Roed and Megan Seeman all added one more. Seeman added a team-high three steals.

The game was close for most of the contest before the Sagehens finally pulled away late. CLU took the early lead as the Regals scored the first goal as Seeman found the back of the net. Pomona-Pitzer fired back and scored three straight to take its first lead of the game. Roed scored her only goal late in the first quarter and the Regals were only down 3-2. Both teams scored one goal in the second period as the defenses stepped up and the score was 4-3 at the break.

Pomona-Pitzer opened up its lead in the third quarter. The Sagehens scored four times, with one Cal Lutheran goal in between, as they took an 8-4 lead with one quarter to play. PP held off CLU in the final quarter and won the game 12-7.

The Regals look to bounce back on Saturday. Cal Lutheran will be at Chapman and plays the Panthers at 11 a.m.
