Haddad Named AVCA West Region Freshman of the Year

LEXINGTON, Ky.— Freshman middle blocker Maci Haddad of Cal Lutheran Regals volleyball was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association West Region Freshman of the Year, the AVCA announced Thursday morning. She also earned a spot on the All-West Region Team.

Haddad is only the second Regal to garner Freshman of the Year honors. She joins Jackie Russell, who earned the award in 2009.

Haddad was impressive in her first year with the Regals. A native of Bakersfield, Calif., Haddad led the SCIAC in blocks per set and hitting percentage. She ranks 27th in the nation for blocks per set (1.07) and 29th in hitting percentage (0.359). She has tallied 2.53 kills per set (281 in all) and has added 47 digs.

She helped Cal Lutheran to the championship match in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament and an at-large berth to the Division III NCAA Championship.
