Regals Come Up Short in SCIAC Tournament

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Cal Lutheran's Hope Stewart tallied nine kills and Amanda Roberts swatted down eight more, but the Regals volleyball team came up short in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament Championship and fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-16) Saturday night in Roberts Pavillion.

With the win, CMS punched its ticket to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament with the SCIAC's automatic bid. The Regals (16-12) will have to wait until the NCAA selection show to see if their season continues.

Stewart tallied her nine kills with a .308 hitting percentage. Molly Holloway had the third-most kills on the team with six. Steph Rolfson kept the offense going with 16 assists and Jamie Smith had nine. Rolfson also hit 1.000 with three kills.

Defensively, Emma Cisneros-Luebke protected the backline 10 digs. Stewart and Roberts each tallied seven digs. Paris Dosch and Mackenzie Martinez both tallied three block assists.

The Regals started the first set strong and kept it very close as the score went back and forth. CMS opened the lead at the end and took the first set 25-19. The Athenas used that momentum as they ran away with the second (25-14) and third (25-16) sets and the match 3-0.

Isabelle Taylor led CMS with 14 kills and Shelbi Stein had 12 more. Clara Madsen tallied 25 assists. Sarah Tritschler recorded a match-high 17 digs.

The Regals will have to wait until the NCAA selection show to see if their season will continue.
