Regals sweep Sagehens

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The California Lutheran University women's volleyball team dominated their Homecoming weekend match against Pomona-Pitzer Satuday night inside Gilbert Arena. The scores of the match were 25-17, 25-17 and 25-12.

The Regals started off with a pair of attack errors, but they bounced back quickly thanks to a couple of kills by Paris Dosch. Hope Stewart joined in on the kills to add some breathing room for the Violet and Gold with a score of 14-8. The Regals took command of the set early, but they had to fend off a late fight by the Sagehens to win 25-17. Dosch led the offensive attack for the Regals hitting .545 with six kills. Emma Cisneros-Luebke contributed with seven digs.

CLU took another early lead in the second set and made sure to spread its attacks around getting everyone involved. Dosch, Stewart, Carly Rose Howard, Amy McKee, Molly Holloway and Amanda Roberts all added to the offensive attack in the second set. This allowed the Regals to take control of the set again, but Pomona-Pitzer would not back down. They won five of the last six points, but CLU ended it with a kill from Roberts (25-17). The Regals split up 30 kills amongst six players, and relied heavily on Howard and Cisneros-Luebke for their digs with 10 and 13, respectively. Howard also had two service aces.

The Sagehens earned the first point of the set for the third time tonight. The Regals got on the board thanks to three Sagehen attack errors and another ace from Howard. Dosch continued her success earning two consecutive points off kills. A little bit later in the set, two attack errors from Pomona-Pitzer gave the Regals a 19-7 lead forcing the Sagehens to call a timeout and regroup. CLU mixed in some young talent and finished off the set (25-12).

CLU spread the wealth as seven Regals got at least one kill in the sweep over Pomona-Pitzer. The offense was led by Roberts and Dosch with 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Cisneros-Luekbe held down the defensive side for CLU with 17 digs. Howard had an impressive four service aces on the night. Jamie Smith tallied 23 assists and Steph Rolfson added 14 more.

For the Sagehens, Isabel Kelly had 10 kills and three digs, while Natalie Martin added 19 digs. Jessica Finn contributed 19 assists.

The Regals (10-10, 6-5 SCIAC) travel to Occidental College on Tuesday, Oct. 17 for another SCIAC matchup at 7 p.m. Cal Lutheran looks to pick up another game in the SCIAC standings.
