Regals to Host 10th Annual Cal Lu Fornia Invitational

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center will be transformed into the venue for a high-level women's volleyball tournament this weekend as the Regals host the 10th Annual Cal Lu Fornia Invitational inside both the Gilbert Arena and Soiland Recreation Center on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 8-9.

A trio of American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Week One Top-25 teams with one other team receiving votes in the first poll will converge on the court. No. 11 Cal Lutheran is joined by Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) foe and No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and No. 10 Trinity (Texas) while Pacific Lutheran (Wash.) also earned recognition. Rounding out the participating teams are Pomona-Pitzer, UC Santa Cruz, Whittier and Whitworth (Wash.). CMS, PP and UCSC are all returning competitors from the 2016 edition.

Cal Lutheran will face UC Santa Cruz and Whitworth on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., respectively, before taking on Pacific Lutheran at 2:00 p.m. with a rematch of opening weekend against Trinity set for 6:00 p.m. All four CLU matches will take place in the Arena.

The Regals started the season strong with a pair of 3-0 victories at the Trinity National Tournament, one against No. 23 Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a second over Whitman (Wash.). Day two proved more challenging as the Violet and Gold dropped a pair of five-setters to No. 1 Calvin (Mich.) and then No. 14 Trinity.

A tournament schedule can be found atop the CLU women's volleyball schedule page and will be updated as results become available.
