Barnes, Guidetti and Rouse Earn All-West Region Honors

NEW ORLEANS — Junior Kendall Guidetti and seniors Alexa Barnes and Kelsey Rouse were named to the All-West Region honors list by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, Sunday night, recognizing the top-five individuals and top-three relay teams in each event in each region. 

Barnes collected two distinctions in her final season. She highlighted the Rossi Relays with a new lifetime PR in the hammer throw, tossing for 47.75 meters, and the fourth best throw in program history. She additionally notched a career-best at the SCIAC Championships this season, earning gold with a 41.80-meter discus throw, third on the all-time best list. 

Guidetti also earned honors in the long jump, picking up the title at the SCIAC Championships and later recording the best performance in the region at the Redlands Final Qualifier. This past weekend, she broke the program record for the second time this year, jumping 5.85 meters, and qualifying for NCAA Division III Championships with the fourth best leap in the nation. 

Joining her at nationals, Rouse earned distinctions in the high jump, clearing 1.62 meters to take second at the SCIAC Championships. Her personal record also ties for third in the Cal Lutheran record books. 

Guidetti and Rouse will continue their seasons this weekend, May 23-25, at the NCAA Division III Nationals in Geneva, Ohio. For the second time in their careers, Guidetti is set to compete in the long jump and Rouse will compete in the heptathlon.
