Guidetti Claims Long Jump Title on Day One of SCIAC Champs

CLAREMONT, Calif. — A huge afternoon of lifetime personal records set the Cal Lutheran Regals apart on day one of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Overall, junior Kendall Guidetti and senior Alexa Barnes both made their way to the podium, Saturday afternoon, while four others qualified for tomorrow's finals.

Leading the way, Guidetti claimed the long jump title for the third straight year with a personal-best 5.81-meter jump, breaking the program all-time record and beating her previous lifetime PR of 5.75 meters recorded at the 2017 SCIAC Championships. Her mark also improves her to No. 2 in the nation in the event. Tomorrow, the junior will return to the track for the finals of the 100-meter dash after winning her heat today at 12.27 seconds.

Also making her way to the podium, Barnes took third in the hammer throw at 44.40 meters. Alongside her in the afternoon's throwing finals, senior Kelsey Rouse and junior Morgan Snyder went back-to-back for sixth and seventh in the javelin throw, tossing for 32.20 meters and 31.46 meters, respectively.

Rouse also qualified for tomorrow's finals in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the line at 15.26 seconds for a new career-best and the third best time in program history in the preliminaries. Joining her in tomorrow's finals are freshman Veronica Redpath, who recorded lifetime PRs in the 1500-meter run at 4:58.83 and in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 12:28.82, and junior Rachel Ereso who picked up a season-best 4:59.19 in the 1500-meter.

Rounding out the day's highlights, junior pole vaulters Megan Pollock and Kayla Cross went back-to-back once again for fourth and fifth with matching lifetime PRs of 3.22 meters that put both of them at fourth in the school's all-time top-ten list.
