Barnes Wins Discus; Regals Tally 17 Top-10 Finishes at Redlands Invite

REDLANDS, Calif. — Senior Alexa Barnes took first and second in the discus and hammer, respectively, in route to the Cal Lutheran Regals' 17 top-ten finishes in Friday's Redlands Invitational. 

Five of those top-ten finishes came from senior Kelsey Rouse who highlighted her afternoon with third in the high jump, tying her career-best 1.6 meters. She also took seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (15.88 seconds), eighth in the 200-meter dash (26.79 seconds), eighth in the javelin (27.38 seconds) and tenth in the long jump (5.22 meters). 

Alongside her, Barnes claimed the discus title with a 36.23-meter mark and later took second in the hammer at 45.09 meters. Juniors Megan Pollock and Kayla Cross finished second and sixth in the pole vault, respectively; Pollock cleared 3.05 meters and Cross cleared 2.90 meters. And rounding out the field crew, junior Kendall Guidetti claimed fifth in the long jump at 5.49 meters. 

On the track, three freshmen finished in the top ten in the 400-meter dash. Denaya Wickett crossed the line in fifth at 1:02.84, Samantha Carranza in sixth at 1:04.14 and Cassidy Fukuda in eighth at 1:06.65. 

They are joined by junior Ana Cordoba who took seventh in the 200-meter dash (26.44 seconds) and tenth in the 100-meter dash (12.67 seconds), and senior Rebecca Kozlowski who finished eighth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:11.27). 

The Regals return to action on Thursday and Friday, March 21-22, at the Jim Klein Combined Events in Santa Barbara, California, hosted by Westmont College.
