Rouse Finishes No. 20 in Heptathlon at NCAA Championships

LA CROSSE, Wisc. — Concluding her debut at the NCAA Division III National Championships, Kelsey Rouse finished at No. 20 in the women's heptathlon. She accrued a total of 4010 points, the fifth highest sum in program history, and finished top-ten in the long jump.

The junior is just the third Regal in program history to qualify for the national championships in the heptathlon and the latest since Cassandra Anderson in 2008. Pam Beaver also competed for the Regals in the heptathlon in 1991 and 1992.

Adding on to her 2464 points after the first four events yesterday, Rouse picked up 1546 points this afternoon in the long jump, javelin throw and 800m run.

Rouse finished ninth in the long jump with a 5.24-meter mark, picking up 626 points. She then went on to finish eighteenth in the javelin throw at 25.01 meters (382 points) and twenty-first in the 800m run at 2:43.10 minutes (538 points).

Yesterday, Rouse finished third in the long jump at 1.57 meters, just .03 meters shy of her lifetime personal best. She also finished fifteenth in the 200m dash at 27.59 seconds (664 points), eighteenth in the 100m hurdles at 16.34 seconds (673 points) and twentieth in the shotput with an 8.41 meter throw (426 points).

Her sum of 4010 points is the fourth highest total in program history. Beth Rockliffe's sits atop the list with 4873 points set in 1982. Just behind her, Rouse's record-breaking performance at the Redlands Final Qualifying Meet last week puts her at second with 4475 points. Third and fourth place are held by the other two national qualifiers, Anderson and Beaver, with 4387 and 4244 points, respectively.
