Rouse Takes Home Heptathlon Title at Redlands Qualifiers

REDLANDS, Calif.Kelsey Rouse dominated day two of the heptathlon to take home the title at the Redlands Final Qualifying Meet. Six other Cal Lutheran track and field athletes followed suit and combined to finished in the top three in four events.

Rouse entered today's contest in second place with 2763 points, just 184 behind the leader after the first four events. However, her performance in the final three events secured a standout victory for the junior. She took home first in the 800m run at 2:36.87 minutes (609 points), first in the javelin with a 27.63 meter throw (423 points), and second in the long jump at 5.40 meters (671 points).

Her final total after all seven events added up to 4475 points, 465 points more than the second place finisher. Her score also far exceeds her personal lifetime best of 3928 points she set previously this year and is now second-best in the school's all-time record book. If her standing holds after midnight of May 17, her score also qualifies her for the NCAA Division III Championships which accepts only the top 22 scores in the nation.

The Regals also finished top three in four other events. JaNarie Rhambo followed closely behind with a second place finish of her own in the shot put, throwing for 11.02 meters.

Taking home third place finishes are Morgan Snyder, Alexa Barnes and the women's 4x100 relay team. Snyder jumped 10.75 meters in the triple jump and Barnes threw for 47.08 meters in the hammer throw. Kendall Guidetti, Rouse, Stephanie Williamson and Ana Cordoba joined to run the 4x100 relay in 49.12 seconds.
