PORTLAND, Ore. – California Lutheran University women's tennis got off to a hot start and nearly swept Lewis & Clark as the Regals beat the Pioneers 8-1 on Friday afternoon.
The match started with doubles play and the Regals swept their competition.
Carmen Bufkin and Brennan Foreman won at the No. 1, 8-4, Carolina Groff Hinojosa and Sylvie Van Cott took the No. 2 spot 8-1 and Heidi Levanen and Joslin Seaberg were victorious at the No. 3, 8-4.
The Regals carried that momentum over to singles play and took five of the six singles matches.
Bufkin won 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 1, Van Cott was victorious 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 2, Sophia Gawrit rolled to a win at the No. 3, 7-5, 6-1, Luisa Garcia took No. 5, 6-0, 6-2 and Groff Hinojosa nearly swept her competition at the No. 6, 6-1, 6-0.
The lone loss of the day was at No. 2 singles as Foreman came up just short 4-6, 6-1 (7-10).
The Regals start the season 1-0 and play Linfield College on Sunday 9 a.m.
