Roster | Schedule

The Regals open the season next weekend on the road. Cal Lutheran is at Lewis & Clark (Ore.) on Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. We talked with Head Coach Mike Gennette about the upcoming season.

Your team saw some action last year, how has that helped you going into the new season?

It helps to keep the continuity of competition for our team. We also played most of our games against division two and NAIA scholarship divisions so everybody had great competition and gained valuable experience.

What can you tell us about the returning class, which Regals should we be looking out for?

Several of our returners have continued to improve each year and should help the team to make an impact this year. Returning captains Brennan Foreman and Sophia Gawrit are excited for their senior year. More team leaders, seniors Carolina Groff Hinojosa, Heidi Levanen have also improved a lot and are ready to pick up where they left off with some good wins last year.

Then you have the incoming class, who can make noise?

The two top newcomers are Carmen Bufkin and Sylvie Van Cott. Carmen is a freshman from Texas and Sylvie is a sophomore transfer from Ventura College. Both of them are exceptional players and will play at the top of the ladder.

What can you tell us about your schedule, what meets are you looking forward to?

We have an exciting schedule with some top teams coming in to play us this spring. In addition, we will be traveling to the Pacific Northwest to face off with some of the other top West Region teams. We are also looking forward to returning to Hawaii to play some good matches this year.

What are your thoughts about the season? What can we expect from the team?

The team has an interesting mix of experience and new blood. The seniors are now seasoned and ready to show who they are, while the incoming players are very good and will make a huge impact in the lineup and against our opponents. This team will be moving up in the standings.
