THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – After being swept in the first meeting, Cal Lutheran Women's Tennis turned it around, just narrowly falling to Chapman, 5-4, on Friday afternoon.
It was a slow start for the Regals as the Panthers swept doubles play to go up 3-0.
Carolina Groff Hinojosa and Brennan Foreman played together at the No. 1 (8-6), Heidi Levanen and Joslin Seaberg competed at the No. 2 (8-2) and Jordan Buck and Sophia Gawrit took to the court at the No. 3 (8-5).
The Regals bounced back in singles and Groff Hinojosa got the Regals on the board as she almost swept her competition at the No. 3 (6-1, 6-0).
After Chapman made it 4-1, Henna Levanen falling at the No. 2 (7-5, 6-1), CLU added one more. Buck saw action at the No. 4, and came out on top 6-4, 1-6, 10-2 (retired) to cut the lead in half.
The Panthers got the clinch and took the dual as Seaberg was defeated at the No. 4 (6-3, 6-3). The Regals then added two points as Gawrit won at the No. 6 (7-5, 3-6, 10-4) and Foreman took the No. 1 (7-6, 7-5).
The Regals continue the season with two non-conference matches. CLU stays home and will host Ventura Community College on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
