KERRVILLE, Tex. – Cal Lutheran grabbed a pair of wins over Mary Hardin-Baylor and Schreiner University, improving to 6-1 on the young season. The matches took place at Schreiner University where the Regals would sweep the competition.
Match 1
CLU cruised to a 9-0 victory over the Crusaders in their first match of the day. Carolina Groff Hinojosa and Sophia Gawrit got things started in the doubles competition, winning their match 8-0.
Lilijana Peters-Semak and Brennan Foreman followed with an 8-2 win before JoAnn Taylor and Joslin Seaberg clinched the doubles sweep with their 8-2 victory.
The success would continue on the singles side as Foreman was bumped up to the number-one sport. The sophomore impressed with her 6-4, 6-3 win. Taylor and Seaberg picked up wins in the two and three spots before Heidi Levanen, Jordan Buck and Groff Hinojosa wrapped up the competition with three more victories, clinching the sweep.
Match 2
The second match was much like the first as Cal Lutheran swept their singles matches and dropped only one match on the doubles side.
The Taylor-Seaberg duo remained in the win column with an 8-4 win while Groff Hinojosa and Gawrit earned another point with their 8-5 victory.
Peters-Semak returned to singles play and grinded out a three-set win 5-7, 6-2, 10-7 to walk away with a big point for her team.
Foreman double-bageled her opponent and Taylor dominated her competitor 6-2, 6-1.
Seaberg lost just one game in her 6-1, 6-0 victory while Levanen won a tiebreak to take her match 6-2, 7-6 (2).
Groff Hinojosa ended the perfect day on a high note with her 6-0, 6-1 win.
The Regals return to SCIAC play March 6 at 3 p.m. when CLU travels to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
