HONOLULU, Hi. — The Cal Lutheran Regals were victorious over the Division 2, Chaminade University Silverswords, Wednesday afternoon. The Regals defeated the Silverswords 7-0.
Kicking off with doubles, freshman Lilijana Peters-Semak and senior Christie Kurdys, No. two spot, started the match off with a win of 6-0. Next, freshman Nicole Alvarez and junior JoAnn Taylor, No. one doubles, added another victory for the Regals, 6-0.
Junior Jade Moore and freshman Grace Maroscher, No. three doubles, solidified the Regals doubles victories by winning 6-3, in their first doubles match of the season.
Progressing into singles play, freshman Brennan Foreman, No. three, won 6-1 and 6-0. Freshman Heidi Levanen, No. five singles, added another win, 6-1 and 6-2.
After her win, Levanen said, "The key to success today for me was just trusting my shots and going for it!"
Following next, in the No. one spot, Semak continued the achievements for the Regals with a win of 6-3 and 6-2.
Kurdys, No. two singles, won 6-2 and 6-0; Taylor, No. four, won 6-2 and 6-3; and freshman Joslin Seaberg, No. six singles, swept her opponent 6-0 and 6-0.
After the win, head coach Mike Gennette stated, "We had a chance today to play Joann Taylor, Heidi Levanen, and Joslin Seaberg in singles and they all won! Jade Moore and Grace Maroscher also made an appearance at number three doubles and got the win. So, it was a great day to see some fresh faces in the lineup and for these up and comers to get some valuable playing time."
The Cal Lutheran Regals will return to Ala Moana Park tennis courts Friday, March 29, at 2 PM HST, to play the Chaminade University Silverswords.
