ALISO VIEJO, Calif. –  Cal Lutheran's Kali Youngdahl was named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Women's Soccer Athlete of the Year, Trinity Martinez earned Newcomer of the Year and Head Coach Frank Marino was recognized as Coach of the Year. The awards were announced Wednesday following a vote conducted by the league's member head coaches.

The Regals had four players named First Team All-SCIAC. Youngdahl and Martinez were joined by Maddy Griess and Olivia Leyva. Sam Cornejo and Sarah Tadeusiak represented Cal Lutheran on the Second Team.

Youngdahl earns her first SCIAC Athlete of the Year award. She was named to the First Team for the fourth consecutive season. The senior led the league in both goals (12) and assists (7) for a total of 31 points. During the course of the SCIAC season, the Renton, Wash., native netted five game-winning goals, highlighted by the Regals' 2-1 victory over Pomona-Pitzer on Oct. 25. She also sealed games against Chapman (Sept. 16), the Sagehens earlier in the season on Sept. 30, Occidental (Oct. 18) and Whittier to close out the regular season on Oct. 28.

Martinez was named the Newcomer of the Year following a terrific debut season. The freshman helped the Regals secure six clean sheets against SCIAC opponents. In addition, the defender from Northridge, Calif., notched two goals, and tied for the conference lead in assists with four. A key component of an impressive backline, Martinez and the defense allowed a SCIAC low eight goals, and registered a .59 goals-against average. Altogether, she scored three goals and added six assists.

Griess earns her first All-SCIAC honor as she was named to the First Team. The Andover, Minn., native played in the midfield for the Regals. The sophomore scored two goals and added three assists. Two of her assists came off throw-ins. In the opponent's territory, Griess threw the ball all the way into the box for which led to crucial goals in tight games. She has the offensive statistics, but also helped out on defense.

Leyva was named First Team All-SCIAC for the first time in her career. She was named to the Second Team during her junior and freshman campaigns. The La Canada, Calif., native has been a focal point for one of the best defenses in the SCIAC. She helped lead the team to eight shutout victories, six of which were in conference play. Offensively, she has one assist and fired five shots on goal for a shooting percentage of .833. She started all 19 games for the Regals on the back line.  

Cornejo earned Second Team All-SCIAC honors in her first year with the Regals. A freshman, from Hesperia, Calif., Cornejo scored the second-most goals on the team with five. Four of the goals were against conference opponents. The forward played in every game for the Cal Lutheran and started eight of them. As a playmaker, Cornejo has been a big part of an offense that scored the most goals in SCIAC play with 24.

Tadeusiak garnered All-SCIAC Second Team honors for the second straight year. The Santa Clarita, Calif., native started 18 of the 19 games for the Regals. As a midfielder, she had a big hand in helping the offense and defense. Offensively, the junior scored one goal and added one assist. Her lone goal was the game-winner against Redlands on Sept. 13.

Marino, now in his ninth season at the helm of the Regals, was honored with his first SCIAC Coach of the Year award. Marino guided Cal Lutheran to a 15-2-2 overall record, highlighted by a 11-1-2 mark in SCIAC action. His team kept eight clean sheets, highlighted by six against conference competition. 

The Regals claimed three of the four individual awards as the SCIAC Award of Distinction went to Jacey Coniff of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

The Regals start postseason play Thursday as the team hosts Whittier at 7 p.m. inside William Rolland Stadium for a semi-final game of the SCIAC Tournament.

Video and Live Stats will be available for the match and tickets will be sold at the entrance. Children under the age of 12 as well as students, faculty and staff with ID will receive free admittance. Tickets for seniors (55 and older) and veterans will be $5 while admission for all others is $10.
