Regals to Host SCIAC Postseason Tournament Semifinal

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. –  The Cal Lutheran women's soccer team claimed the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship during the regular season for the first time since 2013 and will host the No. 4 seed Whittier Poets Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7:00 p.m. inside William Rolland Stadium.

The Regals locked up the SCIAC regular season championship and the No. 1 seed with a conference record of 11-1-2. Overall, the team is 15-2-2. The Regals are also undefeated at home with a record of 9-0-1. They currently ride a five-game winning streak.

In two matches against the Poets (10-8, 6-8 SCIAC) this season, the Violet and Gold won 2-1 (2OT) and 2-0. Trinity Martinez scored in the first game and Whittier had an own goal in the second overtime period to give the win to Cal Lutheran at 2-1. Kali Youngdahl and Alexandra Albaeck scored in the second game and goalkeeper Alysa Frazier shutout the Poets.

Youngdahl leads the team with 12 goals and seven assists for 31 points. She has seven game winning goals. Sam Cornejo has scored five goals in her freshman season. Albaeck, Martinez, Jordan Miller and Bri Pinal have each scored three goals.

Defensively, Olivia Leyva, Martinez and Zandra Stewart have kept opposing offenses in check and have recorded eight shutouts. The Regals have split time in goal between Gabby Flores and Frazier. Flores has seven wins and has Frazier won six.

The other semifinal match pits No. 3 seed Redlands at No. 2 seed Pomona-Pitzer. The winner of both semifinal matches will play at the site of the highest seed remaining with a time to be determined on Saturday, Nov. 4. The winner of the tournament final earns an automatic bid into the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.

Video and Live Stats will be available for the match and tickets will be sold at the entrance. Children under the age of 12 as well as students, faculty and staff with ID will receive free admittance. Tickets for seniors (55 and older) and veterans will be $5 while admission for all others is $10.
