Regals Knock Off Sagehens

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women's soccer team won its third straight game and remained unbeaten at home as the Regals knocked off the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens 1-0 Saturday night in Rolland Stadium.

The Regals improved to 7-1-1 overall and 5-0-1 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play. CLU has won six of its last seven games.

The first half was very defensive as both teams could only get off three shots each. Cal Lutheran goalkeeper Gabby Flores and Pomona-Pitzer's Isa Berardo both recorded one save.

In the second half, the Regals got on the board in the 51st minute. While in Pomona-Pitzer territory, Maddy Griess took a throw-in and chucked the ball all the way into the goal box. Kali Youngdahl was there as she headed the ball into the back of the net to give CLU the 1-0 lead. The goal was Youngdahl's fifth of the season.

Both teams had more chances, but neither could convert. Flores tallied three saves on the night as the Regals shutout the Sagehens. CLU has four shutouts on the season, all of which are against SCIAC teams.

The offense was very even throughout the game as the Regals and Sagehens recorded eight and seven shots, respectively. Youngdahl took half while Jordan Miller, Trinity Martinez, Zandra Stewart and Sarah Tadeusiak each added one.

The Regals continue the season Monday with a non-conference match against UC Santa Cruz at 2 p.m. in William Rolland Stadium.
